The Eagles last competed two weeks ago at the Charlotte Invitational, where they placed 22nd among 43 teams, running on the same course they will compete on this week at McAlpine Park. Junior Sara Curry (Lawrence, Ga.) broke her previous personal best time at the meet, recording the fourth-best time (18:49.66) in Georgia Southern history for the 5K.
"This is a familiar course for us," said Head Coach Marlo Mincey. "I think that will help us this week as we look to improve our times. We've really been focusing on getting sharper and being more aggressive. That means hitting the times we set for ourselves at every mile marker. In order to compete against another tough field this week, everyone will need to bring their 'A' game."
The course at McAlpine Creek Park is flat and firm, consisting of a wide crushed gravel path, and known for producing fast times.
This week's event will be the final tune-up for the Eagles before they head to Charleston for the Southern Conference Championships on October 29.
