The Series
Elon (20-10, 8-4) narrowly edges Georgia Southern (15-14, 7-5) in the all-time series, 13-12. The Phoenix took 2-of-3 games in 2009 during the regular-season series, but fell to the Eagles 7-3 in the championship game of the Southern Conference Tournament. The last series at Elon occurred in 2008 with the Phoenix taking all three contests.
Scouting the Phoenix
Elon is coming off a 4-2 victory over No. 20 North Carolina Tuesday night. The Phoenix picked up their third victory of the season over a top-25 opponent with the win, matching the most wins over top-25 opponents since the start of the 1999 campaign. Earlier in the season, Elon swept No. 5 Clemson, 2-0.
The Phoenix enter this weekend's series on a five-game win streak and have taken 10 of their past 11. Elon swept both Davidson and UNC Greensboro in league action, but were swept by The Citadel in the second conference series of the season.
Elon lost five regulars from the 2009 line-up that led the nation. In total, the Phoenix lost 10 letterwinners and return 19, including only three starters.
Before the season began, Elon collected preseason honors. Senior catcher Mike Melillo was a third-team preseason All-America by Ping!Baseball, while junior right hander Thomas Girdwood was named to the initial watch list for the sixth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award.
In the SoCon preseason polls, Elon was picked to finish first in the conference by the media, but tied with Georgia Southern in the coaches poll. Jimmy Reyes was named the Preseason Pitcher of the Year and was joined on the first team by Girdwood, Melillo and Justin Hilt.
Last Time Out
The Eagles traveled to College of Charleston last weekend for their second road conference series of the season. The Cougars took all three contests from the Eagles with two wins occurring in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Georgia Southern closes out this six-game road swing and returns to J.I. Clements Stadium on Tuesday, April 13 for a non-conference game against Jacksonville. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
