Eagles Travel to Furman for SoCon Series

STATESBORO, Ga. – Winding down the regular season Southern Conference slate, Georgia Southern hits the road for a league series at Furman this weekend. The conference foes will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 1, beginning at noon and a single game on Sunday, May 2, at 1 p.m.
After a bye weekend from league play, the Paladins enter the series standing at 13-26 overall having dropped their last contest. Furman sports a 5-13 record against conference opponents last being swept by The Citadel in Charleston. Georgia Southern brings a 23-19, 13-8 ledger into the series after completing a sweep over Kennesaw State Tuesday night by a 16-2 decision.

The Series
Georgia Southern and Furman will meet for the 77th time in program history Saturday. GS leads the all-time series 44-32 having dropped 2-of-3 in the 2009 regular season. GS tied the series 2-2 in 2009 defeating the Paladins to advance to the championship game of the Southern Conference Tournament. The Eagles topped the Paladins 16-4.
Scouting the Opponent
Standing in 9th-place on the SoCon leaderboard, Furman last won a SoCon series defeating College of Charleston in Greenville, taking 2-of-3 contests. The Paladins are most recently coming off a 14-2 defeat against UNC Asheville.
The Paladins are led offensively by Will Muzika hitting .355 with a team-best 10 home runs. Muzika has also driven in 38 runs to pace the team in RBI. Behind Muzika is Will Owens who is batting .340.
Western Carolina, Wofford and UNC Greensboro still remain on Furman's conference schedule.
Last Time Out
Georgia Southern snapped two losses to Western Carolina with a 16-2 offensive explosion against Kennesaw State. The midweek win witnessed freshman Victor Roache's second grand slam in as many days that handed the Eagles a 5-1 lead in the first, the only lead that would be needed in the contest. Only two scoreless innings were played by the Eagles who collected 16 hits.
Chris Myers (Gainesville, Fla.) picked up his first collegiate win throwing three innings allowing one run on two hits. Three Eagles posted three hits apiece with Randy J. Williams (Valdosta, Ga.) going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI.
