SPARTANBURG, S.C. –Andy Moye of Georgia Southern and Chris Patterson of Appalachian State have been selected as the league's Co-Pitchers of the Week for all games from April 5-11. This is the second honor for the junior right-handed pitcher in two weeks from the league's office.
Moye (Alpharetta, Ga.) pitched 7.0 scoreless innings in Georgia Southern's 4-0 shutout of Elon on Sunday afternoon. The junior right-hander improved to 4-3 on the season as he scattered three hits, all singles, and only allowed one base runner to reach third base. Moye struck out eight Elon hitters as the Eagles became the first team to blank the Phoenix in a SoCon game since the conference foe joined the league in 2004.
Earlier in the season, Moye led the Eagles to their first shutout since 2007. The junior closed out the series against UNC Greensboro, holding the Spartans scoreless through eight innings while collecting a career-high 13 strikeouts.
Patterson was stellar out of the bullpen last week, earning a win and three saves in four appearances for the Mountaineers. A senior right-hander, Patterson worked 5.2 innings, scattering three singles while recording strikeouts in 13 of a possible 18 outs. After earning a win against North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, Patterson saved all three of ASU's SoCon wins over Davidson. In game two, he recorded seven strikeouts in two innings after a passed ball on the third strikeout of the eighth inning made a four-strikeout inning possible.
Other top performers among pitchers were Ian Parry (Furman), Jimmy Reyes (Elon), Matt Reifsnider (The Citadel), Kevin Decker (College of Charleston), Josh Martin (Samford), Matt Benedict (Western Carolina) and John Cornely (Wofford).
