Baseball Welcomes Georgia Tech

STATESBORO, GA – Georgia Southern begins midweek play welcoming No. 3/4 Georgia Tech to J.I. Clements Stadium, Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb. 23-24). First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6 p.m. with a 4 p.m. start on Wednesday.
The Eagles are coming off a 1-2 season-opening start against Tennessee Tech this past weekend. GS took game two of the series, 16-9 using a seven run eighth-inning to break open a tied ballgame. Roman Grimaldi (Duluth, Ga.), Victor Roache (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and A.J. Wirnsberger (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) all homered in the game for the Eagles, who collected 15 hits off four Golden Eagle pitchers.
Grimaldi hit .417 for the series, going 5-for-13 at the plate, driving in four runs using a double and home run. Wirnsberger launched two deep in the series – the second coming in game three immediately following a Kyle Blackburn (Marietta, Ga.) three-run shot over left-center field.
Scheduled to throw for the Eagles will be Chris Beck (Jefferson, Ga.) and Colin Snow (Alpharetta, Ga.). Beck made his freshman debut in the ninth inning of the season-opening game, striking out one, and stranding a runner in scoring position for TTU. Snow threw three innings of work in game two, allowing two runs (one earned), while striking out four and walking one.
Georgia Tech, ranked as high as third in national polls, opened the 2010 campaign with a sweep of Missouri State, 4-0, 20-3, 13-0. Chase Burnette batted .727 in the three-game series, going 8-of-11 with two home runs and six RBI. The Yellow Jackets plan to throw right-hander Mark Pope on Tuesday and right-hander Buck Farmer on Wednesday. Farmer threw one inning of scoreless action over the weekend.
