Swimming & Diving Remains in Fifth Place After Day Two

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team remained in fifth place after the second day of events at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships at the at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center at the University of Tennessee. The Eagles posted 296.5 points, just 17.5 points behind fourth-place North Florida. Florida Gulf Coast University held the lead with Davidson in second place and Gardner-Webb in third among the 12 women's teams competing in the 2010 events.

One University record fell as senior Lauren Parr (Canton, Ohio), swam a 4:23.00 and took 2.75 seconds off her previous record time in the 400-yard Individual Medley. Parr took third place in the event. Freshman Lindsay Mullican  (Lancaster, Pa.) posted her season-best time of 4:33.71 for eighth place in the A-Final and junior Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) sliced 14 seconds off her previous 2009-10 time for a 10th place finish in the B-Final.

Two Eagles took top-10 finishes in the 100-yard backstroke with senior Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) leading the way with the top season time of 57.02 for fourth-place in the event. Goodman posted a preliminary time of 57.13 and finished sixth (57.68). Caroline Bevillard's 58.76 time earned her a ninth-place finish, improving her previous best mark. Georgia Southern's 200-yard Medley Relay team of Goodman, senior Ashley White (Charlotte, N.C.), junior Kristen Haudenschild (Woodbridge, Va.) and Martz combined for a 1:45.08 time, the fastest time for the Eagles in that event during the 2009-10 season. Haudenschild would record GSU's best 100-yard butterfly time of the year (57.20) in the preliminaries and then captured a sixth-place finish with a time of 57.37. Freshman Caitlin Martin (Lilburn, Ga.), junior Meredith Fehr (Matthews, N.C.) and White would place in the B-Final with finishes at 14th, 15th and 16th respectively.

Junior Ali Campbell (Ft. McMurray, Alberta) placed fifth in the A-Final with a time of 1:52.80 and senior Jordyn Pasley (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished 11th with a time of 1.54.49 in the 200-yard freestyle. Both times rank in the top five for this season. In the 100-yard breaststroke, White took an eighth-place finish with a time of 1:06.15, and her 1:06.01 time from the preliminaries replaces the Eagles' season-best time she recorded in November.

In the last event of the day, the 800-yard freestyle relay team comprised of Bevillard, Pasley, Parr and Campbell set a season-best mark with a time of 7:39.14 and took fifth place. This Eagle relay team trimmed more than three seconds off the previous top mark of the 2009-10 season.

The CCSA Championships conclude on Saturday, February 20.. Final day preliminaries begin 10 a.m. with the finals at 6 p.m.  The events being contested include the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, women's 3-meter diving and 400-yard freestyle relay. Live meet results are updated throughout the sessions at http://www.ncswim.org/ccsa/2010/.
