Men?s Tennis to Open 2010 Home Schedule This Weekend

STATESBORO, GA – After six matches on the road to start the 2010 regular season, the Georgia Southern men's tennis team will finally open its home schedule this weekend with a pair of matches. The Eagles will play host to Jacksonville on Saturday, Feb. 13 at noon, before welcoming USC Upstate on Sunday in a rescheduled match. First serve on Sunday is slated for 10 a.m.
Standing at 2-4 on the season, the Eagles are coming off a 7-0 sweep of Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla., February 8. The doubles point was captured for the first time this season with two wins and six singles victory secured the 7-0 victory for the Eagles.
Jacksonville enters the contest playing only its second match of the season, having dropped the first at Florida A&M, 4-3. The Dolphins fell behind early, dropping the doubles point, and only captured three singles victories for the loss. Victor Vaz, Jose Fantova Sicre and Hector Garcia Aguilar were each victorious with wins at the No. 1, 2 and 4 seeds, respectively.
In a rescheduled match, USC Upstate will travel to Statesboro on Sunday in a doubleheader with the women's team. The Spartans have had the past two matches postponed leaving seven days of no competition. The 72nd-ranked Spartans last fell at No. 64 Clemson, 5-2, dropping to 0-3 on the year.
