Bobo, Three Recruits Selected in MLB Draft

STATESBORO, Ga. ? Dexter Bobo (Cumming/North Forsyth/Darton College) a junior on the Georgia Southern Baseball team, was selected in the 44th round during day three of the Major League Baseball draft. Bobo and three signees from the fall saw their names called on Thursday (June 11).
Bobo was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates as pick number 1,315. Pitcher Chris Beck (Jefferson/Jefferson) went in the 35th round to the Cleveland Indians. Outfielder/infielder Arthur Owens (Fairburn/Sandy Creek) was chosen by the Kansas City Royals in the 38th round while pitcher Ryan Sadler (Naples, FL/Naples) went in the 39th round to the Minnesota Twins.
Bobo, in his first year with the program, was 2-2 with a 6.55 ERA and three saves. The hard-throwing lefty made 28 relief appearances, striking out 32 to 19 walks allowed and finished with a .274 opponent batting average.
He retired six straight Georgia Tech batters to earn the save at home against the eighth-ranked Yellow Jackets in February. He earned the save against Indiana throwing two scoreless innings and against Appalachian State in the Southern Conference Tournament. Bobo earned the win in relief against Presbyterian and also picked up the win at home against Kennesaw State. He struck out a season-high three batters on four occasions, but never worked more than 2.1 innings of relief. In 17 of his 28 appearances he did not allow a run.
The 2009 SoCon Tournament champs, Georgia Southern finished the campaign 42-17 overall.
