Baseball Faces Charleston Southern at Home Tuesday

STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern Baseball team wraps up a five-game stretch at J.I. Clements Stadium on Tuesday night (April 21) as the Eagles play host to Charleston Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Every baseball game can be heard on the Georgia Southern Radio Network, flagship station Eagle 102.9 FM in Statesboro, and via the internet at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com. Ryan Chambers will call the game and the broadcast will begin 30 minutes before first pitch.
The Eagles (28-9 overall) enter this week ranked 28th in the latest Collegiate Baseball ?Top 30' poll. They were also 29th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll and 31st in the USA Today/ESPN ?Top 25' Coaches' poll.
This is the first meeting between GS and the Buccaneers since April 20, 2005 (22-4 win). The Eagles lead the all-time series 38-4.
Sophomore Andy Moye (Alpharetta/Alpharetta) will get the start. He enters the game 4-0 with a 6.02 ERA in 46.1 innings, striking out 41 to 16 walks. In his previous start last week against Jacksonville, Moye allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings earning the win.
Griffin Benedict (Dunwoody/St. Pius) continues to lead the team batting .402 with 37 runs and 35 RBI. His 18 hit by pitches rank him second nationally. Benedict is currently riding a career-high 16-game hit streak.
Ty Wright (Montrose/ABAC) has continued his hot April, improving his overall batting average to .396. He leads the team with 46 runs scored, 38 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 16 attempts. Over the past 12 games (10-2 in April), Wright is batting at a .491 clip (28-of-57) with 24 runs and 19 RBI.
Brian Pierce (Roswell/Roswell) is hitting at a .444 clip this month with 12 runs and 10 RBI. Overall the senior shortstop moved into third on the team with a .345 batting average. He also owns a .972 fielding percentage. Both Pierce and Wright finished the Davidson series 9-for-13 at the plate with three doubles each.
Freshman Eric Phillips (Carrollton/Carrollton) improved to .333 at the plate with 29 RBI. Phillip Porter (Marietta/Sprayberry) hit two home runs last weekend to take over the team lead with seven. He has scored 41 runs and driven in 26. Senior Kyle Kamppi (Savannah/Benedictine) lowered his ERA to 3.20. He shares the staff lead with 20 appearances and ranks first with six saves.
The Eagles are batting .324 as a team, in addition to their Southern Conference-leading .976 fielding percentage and 4.97 ERA. Georgia Southern's 28 wins are good for a tie for 10th-most nationally.
Charleston Southern (13-26) has lost 11 of its last 12 games, most recently a three-game sweep at home by Presbyterian. The Bucs are batting .300 as a team with a .963 fielding percentage and 7.23 ERA.
Nick Chinners leads the offensive attack batting .368 with 29 runs and 23 RBI. Patrick Dolan (.355 BA) and Tyler Thornburg (.296) share the home run lead hitting seven each. CSU has not announced a starting pitcher for the game.
