Mederos Named SoCon 'Pitcher of the Week'

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Georgia Southern junior right-hander Chris Mederos (Valdosta/Gordon College) was voted Southern Conference ?Pitcher of the Week'. The league office announced the weekly award on Monday afternoon (April 20).
It is Mederos' first weekly award, and first by an Eagle pitcher since Everett Teaford received the honor on April 24, 2006.
Mederos turned in a season-best outing to start the weekend series against Davidson. He allowed one unearned run on four hits working a season-high eight innings. Mederos walked two and struck out a season-high nine batters, leading the Eagles to a 12-7 SoCon win.
In nine weekend starts, Mederos owns an 8-0 record and 4.14 ERA. He has struck out a SoCon-leading 65 batters in 54.1 innings as opponents are batting .282 against him. Mederos ranks among the nation's leaders in victories and strikeouts per nine innings.
GS (ranked 28th this week) plays host to Charleston Southern on Tuesday night (April 21) at 6 p.m. This weekend Mederos and the Eagles travel to The Citadel for a three-game series beginning Friday night (April 24).
