Softball Splits SoCon Opening Doubleheader

Game One
Streetmon continues to dominate, pitching a two-hitter in her first career conference start.
Siliga walked three times in the first game, including her fifth intentional walk of the season.
The Eagles struck first on Smith's solo shot to left in the second inning. Smith went two for three and provided the Eagles their lone run of the day.
The Cougars threatened to force extra innings when they got a runner to third with one out in the seventh. Howard led off the inning with a base knock to left. She reached third after a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch, but Streetmon struck out Katie Nutaitis for the second out of the inning and got Katie Pesature to ground out to end the game.
Game Two
Georgia Southern took an early 1-0 lead but could not hold on after the College of Charleston scored four runs in back-to-back innings and won game two 9-6. The Eagles made a game of it scoring four late runs, but the comeback attempt fell short.
Streetmon pitched two-plus innings of scoreless relief after pitching a complete game in game one.
The Eagles scored first in the top half of the first on a RBI fielder's choice by Hall, scoring Hanna Ennis (
The Cougars got on the board with four in the bottom half of the inning on Katie Nutaitis' grand slam. They added four more runs in the second on three hits, including Kristie Shifflett's three RBI homer down the third base line.
The Eagles made a late comeback attempt, scoring four runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined. Back-to-back doubles by Siliga and Hall with one out in the fifth scored the first run of the fifth inning. Sam Russo (
Siliga drove in the fifth run of the game in the sixth inning with a two-out RBI double, scoring Iduate from first base. Hall kept the rally going with her second extra base hit in as many innings with a RBI triple to center.
Softball continues the conference opening series with the Cougars Sunday at 1 p.m.
