Cross Country Prepares for SoCon Championships

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern cross country team is set to run in the 25th SoCon Championships Saturday at 10:45 a.m. in Elon, N.C. This will be the second trip to the South Campus Course this season.
Former runner Brittney Swick set the Georgia Southern top time for a SoCon Championship in 2002 when she finished 16th with a time of 18:49.00. Kassi Lee (Elberton, Ga.) found her way onto the top-10 career times list with a time of 19:49.53. Lee has improved on every previous time this season and set her season high of 19:57.40 at the Charlotte Invitational.
Senior Laura Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) led the Eagles in the September 12th Elon Invitational. In her first meet of the season, she tallied her second best 5K time of the season (20:10). Fuller has led the team in every 5K meet she has run this season and will look to build on her season high time of 19:41.20 Saturday.
Fellow senior Shauntel Jennings (Stone Mountain, Ga.) set her season high in the season-opening Gamecock Invitational with a time of 20:56.21 and has improved on her previous time in the last two 5K meets.
Two freshmen will look to make a splash in their first SoCon Championships. Sara Curry (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Heather McAllister (Cartersville, Ga.) have improved all season and posted their season high times in their last 5K meet. Curry also paced the Eagles in a 4K meet on October 17th with a time of 15:35.66.
Joining Lee, Fuller, Jennings, Curry and McAllister on the 2009 SoCon Championships roster is Leah Bradley (McDonough, Ga.), Morgan Jefferson (Villa Rica, Ga.), Brittani Martin (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Azura Robillard (Altamonte Springs, Fla.).
