SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Georgia Southern's David Richardson (Dahlonega, Ga./Lumpkin County) was tabbed the Southern Conference ?Student-Athlete of the Week'. Richardson has a 3.90 grade point average and is majoring in Exercise Science. It's the first time in Richardson's career that he has earned the SoCon's weekly academic honor.
Richardson is the second Georgia Southern baseball player to earn the award this season as teammate Chris Shehan (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) picked up the award in March.
Richardson helped the Eagles to a 5-0 record during the week posting a batting average of .615 with 10 RBIs and nine runs. Richardson went 16-of-26 from the plate with one home run, three doubles and stole two bases during that stretch. Richardson also posted a .846 slugging percentage and .643 on-base percentage. He tallied 22 total bases during those five contests.
Richardson, who was recently recognized as the Georgia Southern ?Student-Athlete of the Year', went 5-for-5 against North Florida on April 22. He added a four-hit game against Wofford on April 27 and tied his career-high in RBI with five.
