Coach Tia Peoples joined the Georgia Southern Track & Field program as the throws coach on July 1, 2026,
bringing a distinguished record of athlete development, championship success, and recruiting experience
to the Eagles.
Prior to Georgia Southern, Peoples served as the throws coach at Tampa Catholic High School and with
Trailblazers Youth Athletic Ministry in Tampa, Florida. Over the course of her coaching career, she
established herself as one of the most successful throws coaches in the state, developing athletes from
the youth level through collegiate scholarship opportunities.
A former collegiate thrower herself, Peoples competed in the throwing events at the University of South
Florida under the guidance of Coaches Bob Braman and Greg Thiel. During her career at USF, she set a
school record in the shot put and finished her career ranked among the program's all-time top-10
throwers. Her experience as an elite athlete and coach provides a unique perspective in developing
throwers at the highest levels of competition.
Peoples has coached several state qualifiers and state champions as well as eight athletes who
advanced to NCAA programs. Her athletes have earned national rankings, captured multiple state
championships, and competed among the nation's best. During the 2025-26 season, she coached the
recipient of the Florida Girls Track & Field Gatorade Athlete of the Year award, further highlighting her
ability to develop elite student-athletes capable of achieving success at the highest levels of competition.
Among her most notable accomplishments, Peoples developed a nationally ranked thrower from the
youth level through high school who captured seven Florida state championships and signed with the
University of Texas. Under her guidance, athletes have achieved top-five national rankings and competed
against the nation's elite in the shot put and discus.
Known for her technical expertise in the throws, Peoples emphasizes event-specific skill development,
strength and power training, competitive toughness, and long-term athlete growth. Her coaching
philosophy centers on maximizing each athlete's potential while fostering accountability, confidence, and
excellence in the classroom and competition arena.
In addition to her coaching duties, Peoples has organized throws camps, clinics, and field event
competitions designed to provide opportunities for aspiring athletes while promoting the growth of track
and field within the community.
As Georgia Southern's throws coach, Peoples oversees all aspects of the throws program,
including recruiting, technical development, strength integration, and competition preparation. She is
committed to building a championship-caliber culture and developing student-athletes who excel on
the field and in the classroom.
A respected coach and mentor throughout the Southeast, Peoples continues to build on a career
dedicated to helping athletes achieve success at the conference, national, and collegiate levels while
advancing the tradition of excellence within the Georgia Southern Track & Field program.
