Matty Evans enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Georgia Southern men's soccer program in 2020.

Evans joins the Eagles from Appalachian State, where he was on the staff of the Mountaineers from March, 2019, until the school announced it would discontinue the sport in Spring of this year. In his one season with the Mountaineers, Appalachian State collected 11 wins - the most since 2002 - and also recorded eight shutouts. He previously coached at Lander University, helping the Bearcats to a 16-2-3 mark in 2018 and an NCAA Southeast Region championship, and at West Chester, where the Rams went 14-3-2 overall in 2017 and a perfect 11-0 in PSAC play, capturing the conference championship. West Chester advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 for the first time in 50 years.

Evans was a two-year standout goalkeeper at Seton Hill University, where he started in 36 career matches and totalling more than 3,000 minutes of playing time between the posts. He helped the team to a school record 12 wins in 2015, while his eight shutouts were the fourth most in conference history. He totaled 131 saves in two seasons with a career save percentage of .744. He earned his bachelor's of science degree in sports management from Seton Hill and will be pursuing his master's degree while at Georgia Southern.
