Under Squires, his squad gained eleven more wins than his first season in Statesboro.
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern head men's soccer coach Lee Squires has signed a three-year contract extension, as announced by Director of Athletics Chris Davis, keeping him in Statesboro through the 2028 season.
"I am delighted and honored to commit to continuing the progress of the last three years," said Squires of his extension. "Alongside James [Smith], Clayton [Zelin] and our support staff who are integral to our success, we are excited for the years and challenges ahead. There's great energy and momentum around Georgia Southern men's soccer right now and we want to continue the upward trajectory. There's a sense of unfinished business after this Fall, and we're eager to get back on the pitch!
"I also want to personally thank Dr. Marrero, Chris Davis, our administration and all of Eagle Nation for their support and belief in our vision," continued Squires. "Also, a special mention to our alumni who continue to engage and support our program. Hail Southern!"
In his time in Statesboro, Squires has gone from just two wins in 2023 to amassing 13 this past season, the most since 1997. Under his leadership, the 2025 squad reached their highest ranking in program history (#5), and spent five weeks inside the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. Along with having the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year, the 2025 team allowed the fewest goals in a season since 1987. Squires' defining win in his tenure thus far came in the program's first victory over a top-10 opponent, beating #4 Marshall 2-1 in front of the home crowd at Bo Pitts Field.
Squires' recruiting prowess has also been prevalent during his time at Georgia Southern as the past two Sun Belt Freshman of the Year winners were Eagles. Along with having three all-region players and the program's first All-American, two Eagles were selected in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft. The program's first draftees were Ricky Louis, the second overall pick and was one of Squires' first recruits to Statesboro, and Kevin Pierre, a transfer from Lander who followed Squires when he landed the job at Southern.
"Lee has done an outstanding job building our men's soccer program the right way, and we are excited to extend his contract for three years," Davis said. "His ability to evaluate and develop talent has translated directly to success on the pitch, while his commitment to building meaningful relationships with our donors, alumni and supporters has strengthened the foundation of the program. We are confident Lee's leadership will continue to take Georgia Southern soccer to new heights moving forward."
With a historic 2025 behind them, Squires and the Eagles are eager to start preparing for another successful season in Statesboro.
