Luis Vega

Luis Vega began his Georgia Southern coaching career as an assistant coach for the Eagle men's soccer program in January of 2021.

In 2021, Vega helped to guide the Eagles through unfamiliar territory in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The Eagles competed in one of the toughest men's soccer conferences in the country and competed against the 55th-ranked hardest schedule in Division I. The top performance of the Eagles' season was competing to a 1-1 draw against 21st-ranked Northern Illinois.

Vega joined the program from Florida Gulf Coast University, where he has served as a graduate assistant and director of soccer operations during the 2019 Fall campaign and the 2020 calendar year. The Eagles went 9-8-2 in the Fall of 2019 and advanced to the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament title. The team did not compete in the Fall of 2020, instead playing a 2021 schedule along with the rest of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

As a player, Vega appeared in 53 matches for the Eagles from 2012-15, making 45 starts primarily as a defender. During that stretch, he helped anchor FGCU to four ASUN regular season titles, including a pair of ASUN Tournament championships (2012, 2014) that resulted into two NCAA Tournament berths. He helped the Eagles to a record of 34-24-12 in his career, including a dominant 20-3-4 mark in conference games.

A native of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Vega graduated from FGCU with his bachelor's degree in environmental engineering in 2018 and his master's degree in business administration in 2020.
