Georgia Southern Opens Day One Strong with All-Time Marks at UNLV Invite

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – The Georgia Southern Eagles opened competition at the UNLV Rebel Elite Invitational with a strong all-around performance, highlighted by all-time marks in the high jump and a dominant sprint showing in the 200m.
Youngsters Amara Thomas and Greta Caprathe set the tone early for the Eagles, each delivering all-time marks in the high jump.
Thomas cleared 1.70m to tie for second in the event and match the program's all-time best mark, while Caprathe's 1.65m earned a third-place finish and moved her into a tie for seventh on the all-time list.
On the track, Nia Levy turned in a 2:17.78 performance in the 800m.
The Eagles' sprinters highlighted the day in the 200m, sweeping the top two spots as Shatalya Dorsett took first and NaJ Watson followed in second. Dorsett's winning time of 23.10 ranks No. 3 all-time in program history.
The jumpers continued to lead the way on Day One.
Veteran Kennedy Hood delivered a standout performance in the long jump, placing second with a mark of 6.23m and moving into No. 3 on the program's all-time list.
The group rounded out the event with three personal bests, as Gamyzhae Williams (5.77m), Trin Lavant (5.74m) and Alexandria Kennedy (5.73m) each recorded PR marks.
The Eagles finished the day atop the leaderboard, leading the women's competition with 34 points.
