STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern Eagles (12-13, 1-1 SBC) fell 3-1 to James Madison (13-12, 1-1 SBC) on Saturday at Eagle Field, as the Dukes used timely hitting and a strong performance in the circle to secure the victory.
JMU struck first in the early innings, pushing across a run to take the initial lead before adding to its advantage later in the game. The Dukes extended the margin with additional offense in the middle frames, putting the Eagles in a three-run deficit heading into the later innings.
Georgia Southern battled throughout the contest and broke through in the bottom half of the game to cut into the lead. The Eagles manufactured their lone run with a key offensive sequence that brought the tying run closer to the plate, but James Madison's pitching staff limited further damage to hold onto the advantage.
Despite the loss, Georgia Southern showed patience at the plate. Semira Tigg reached base three times via walk, marking the first time a Georgia Southern player had been walked three times in a game since Gracie Bellard accomplished the feat on Feb. 14, 2025 against Harvard Crimson softball.
The Eagles' pitching staff worked to keep the Dukes within reach throughout the afternoon, while the defense turned in several solid plays behind them to prevent further scoring opportunities.
Georgia Southern will look to bounce back as the series against James Madison Dukes softball continues at Eagle Field.
