New Orleans, La. --- Sophomore forward Ricky Louos of the Eagles' men's soccer team has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Louis only had one appearance on the week, but made it count in a massive way. Against No. 4 Marshall at Bo Pitts Field, Louis was able to score a brace on the night, leading his Eagles to a 2-1 victory. The upset win was the first over a top-five team in program history, and just the second ever over a ranked squad.Â
Louis scored just before the half hour mark after flicking a shot with his right foot that hit just right off the woodwork to give Southern the lead. After Marshall drew even, Louis would receive a long throw in into the box to finish the job in the 78th minute. With now four game winning goals on the season, Louis is now tied for first in the country in the category.
With the award, Louis is now the third Eagle to win a weekly award and the first to win in the offensive category this season.Â
The Eagles next take the road to face top-ten West Virginia on Saturday night (October 4th). Kickoff in Morgantown is set for 7 PM.
