Volleyball Uses Stout Offensive Effort to Beat Presbyterian in Four

Seymour hits .538 with eight kills, Myers has 11 kills and Barth slams 19 in four-set win

ATHENS, Ga.– On the strength of 19 kills from Reagan Barth and a career-high 11 from Alex Myers, Georgia Southern volleyball (8-1) bounced back with a four-set win over Presbyterian (2-7) in the Bulldog Classic finale at Stegeman Coliseum.

"Definitely proud to get the win today, but credit to Presbyterian for coming out after being down 0-2 and threw a little shock to our system," head coach Chad Willis said. "It forced us to dial back into our priorities, and I'm proud of our group for responding in set four and closing."

The tandem of Myers and Lydia Seymour got going early. Myers' kill made it 5-3, and Seymour went 2-0-2 to force the first timeout for the Blue Hose at 9-4.

Myers extended her total to four kills in the opening set towards the end as the Eagles pushed it to 18-12. Barth & Co. closed the set on a 7-4 spread, winning 25-16.

Once again sprinting to a quick advantage, Anna Powell got in on the fun with her first kill of the match in set two, making it 6-3. Leading 10-6, the Eagles went on a 6-0 run, emphasized by Gabby Babinski's first kill of the match. GS did not waver for the remainder of the set, taking it 25-16 again.

The third set was a different story, with the Eagles never finding enough momentum to get over the hump. Presbyterian hit .282 and had 17 kills in the frame, taking it 25-19.

Looking to avoid a repeat of the night before, the blue & white adjusted after falling behind early thanks to a spark by Seymour. Barth extended her total to 19 kills to get to set point, and Myers had her career-best 11th booking to end the match with a 25-20 set victory, improving the team's record to 8-1.

Barth, who had 45 kills on the weekend, continued her march towards 1,000 career kills with 19 more on the evening. Seymour hit .538 with eight kills and Myers had career bests of 11 kills and seven digs, also adding five blocks.

"Seven digs and five blocks as a middle is impressive. I thought she did a great job," head coach Chad Willis said. "She's consistent, steady, and doesn't get overly emotionally high or low and does her job. I think she'll continue to get better and add some important minutes for us."

Kirsten Barrett had 40 assists and 13 digs for yet another double-double in the win, and Maddie Cugino recorded 23 digs to continue her strong season.

The Eagles return to action on Thursday at home against South Carolina State.
