Foley, Al. --- The Georgia Southern volleyball team (19-9, 10-6 SBC) fell in the Sun Belt Quarterfinals in three sets to South Alabama (15-13, 9-7 SBC) on Friday night (November 21st).
It was the Jaguars who had the hot start in the match, extending their lead to an 11-3 margin as the Eagles could not overcome to deficit the rest of the set. While a kill by Reagan Barth and two errors from USA would cut the lead to just five, the Jaguars were able to take the first set, 25-16.
In set two, the two squads were nodded even at nine points each, with South Alabama being able to take a three point lead midway through the second set. However, a three-point run from the Eagles that included a kill from Maggie Sale and a block by Sam Bowron, would no things up. Unfortunately, the Jaguars would catch their second wind late in the set to later secure it by a 25-19 advantage. The final set saw the Eagles either drawn even or with the slight lead midway through, as they had a 15-13 lead at one point. With the match tied at 18, the Jaguars took seven of the match's final twelve points to secure their spot in the semifinals.
Both Barth and Alex Myers paced the Eagles with their eight kills each, while Maggie Sale had the accurate hand with her .308 hitting percentage in 13 attacks and five kills. Each squad had eight service errors, while the Eagles had three aces on the evening as well.
