Eagles now set for Sun Belt tournament
HARRISONBURG, Va. – Senior Faith Barth launched a three-run home run in the third to lift Georgia Southern softball (29-24, 13-11 SBC) over James Madison, 3-1, on Saturday morning at Bank of the James Field.
Georgia Southern got on the board in the third inning courtesy of a three-run shot off the bat of Faith Barth. The home run marks the third of the season for the senior. Madison Humber led off the inning reaching on a bunt single and Emma Davis doubled to put runners in scoring position for Barth.
James Madison responded in the bottom half of the frame, cutting into the deficit on an RBI fielder's choice, making it 3-1 after three. The Dukes looked to even things up in the seventh with a pair of singles but a line out to right field ended the threat.
Alana Barnard picked up her seventh win of the season tossing five complete innings allowing one run on three hits and struck out two. Bailey Holland pitched two innings of relief, scattering three hits to earn her first save of the season.
Seven of the nine starters recorded hits in the contest as Davis led the offense going 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
