Eagles Drop Final Midweek Contest to Owls, 6-4

Marietta, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern baseball team (27-26, 13-14 SBC) fell to Kennesaw State (26-25) by just a 6-4 margin on a slightly delayed Tuesday night in Marietta (May 13th).
Just two swings of the bat from the Owls, all from the same man, would be enough for Kennesaw State to claim victory. On a career night for Donovan Cash, he would hit two separate three-run homers to give his Owls all six runs and eventually the victory. The Eagles, despite knocking just half of the Owls' twelve hits, would still battle until the last out.
In the top of the third, a Nico Senese double to the gap would send newly inserted into the lineup Sammy Leis over to third, before Josh Tate secured his 45th RBI of the year with a sac fly to score him. The very next batter, JP Herrholz would perfectly piece a ball, showcasing his opposite field power, to score him and Senese to tie up the contest at three in the third.
With Kennesaw taking back and doubling their lead in the fourth, they would stay silent for the rest of the game. With the opportunity arising for many Eagles, the squad of Alex Mason, Thomas Burke, Carson Bryant, and Garrett Mackowiak would all combine for six innings of scoreless ball, allowing just five hits and striking out eight Owls.
After two walks allowed in the Eagle seventh, Tate would deliver again with a dribbler through the middle infield, cutting the game to noe 6-4. Fast forwarding into the ninth, back-to-back two-out singles from both Tate and Herrholz, followed by a wild pitch, would put two runners in scoring position. However, after battling for nin pitches, a pop out would end the contest, putting the Owls above .500.
The top two Eagles in the lineup in Tate and Herrholz would do their job well, each going for multi-hit and multi-RBI games. Additionally for Tate, three of his last four contest have gone for two or more hits.
The Eagles hit the road for one final weekend series at Marshall, with major conference implications at hand. First pitch in Huntington is set for Thursday, May 15th, at 6 PM ET.
