Barnard Leads Eagles to 6-0 Victory Over Marshall

Eagles end six game skid
STATESBORO – Georgia Southern softball (28-22, 12-9 SBC) returned to the win column with a 6-0 victory over Marshall (28-22, 12-9 SBC) on Sunday afternoon at Beautiful Eagle Field.
Alana Barnard (6-2) was stellar in the circle tossing a complete game shutout, tossing seven innings scattering four hits and picking up a season high seven strikeouts. The seven strikeouts ties her career high. Barnard held the Thundering Herd to just one hit with runners in scoring position.
Georgia Southern jumped out to an early, 1-0, lead in the bottom of the second as Brooke Kell drew an RBI bases loaded walk. Base hits off the bats of Valerie Combs, Delanie Thames, and Madi Gillespie loaded the bases for Kell.
The Eagles extended its lead scoring a pair of runs in the fourth to make it 3-0. Gillespie and Gracie Bellard drew back-to-back walks before Kell recorded her second RBI of the game on an RBI groundout. Madison Humber continued the scoring on an RBI single up the middle.
The offense added insurance and continued to stay hot in the sixth, scoring three runs making it 6-0. Bellard and Kell tallied two consecutive infield singles to put runners on. Two batters later, Emma Davis drove in the pair of runners on an RBI single. Faith Barth kept the offense going, scoring Davis on an RBI double to right center.
Eight of the nine Eagle batters tallied hits in the contest as the offense exploded for nine hits. Davis led the way going 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs. Kell went 1-for-2 tying her career high two runs batted in.

Georgia Southern travels to James Madison for its final conference series of the season. Game one is set for Thursday at 5 p.m. at Veteran Memorial Park and will be streamed on ESPN+.
