Gainesville, Fla. --- The Georgia Southern baseball team (23-18, 9-9 SBC) fell in seven innings to the Gators of Florida (28-15, 6-12 SEC) 12-1 at Condron Family Ballpark.
The bottom of the first inning would see Joey White give up two hits to the Gators' heart of the order, before striking out the final out of the inning to come away unscathed. An inning later, Florida would put up a three-spot and not look back on their lead.
Southern would score their lone run of the contest in the bottom of the third, as after Josh Tate reached into scoring position after taking a walk, Sean Smith would fight off a two-strike pitch that was laced down the right field line to score Tate from second. Florida only score one combined run across the third, fourth, and sixth innings, but four runs in each of the other frames proved to be the Eagles' demise.
Both Smith and Tate would each have another multi-hit ball game with their two each, while Sean White keeps his hitting streak alive with a base knock in the third. The result marks just the second time that the Eagles have been run ruled, with the other coming at the hands of Coastal Carolina.
The Eagles stay on the road for a crucial Sun Belt series against Louisiana, who sit just one game and one spot above Southern in the conference standings, First pitch at Russo park is set for 7 PM ET this upcoming Friday night, April 25th.
