Softball Falls, 4-2, To Mercer in Midweek Finale

Eagles move to 27-17
STATESBORO – Georgia Southern softball (27-17) fell to Mercer (23-22), 4-2, on Tuesday night at Beautiful Eagle Field.
Mercer jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After a pair of singles, an RBI groundout to first base plated the lone run. Three innings later, Delanie Thames evened the score in the fourth inning launching her seventh home run of the season.
The Bears would retake the lead in the fifth inning scoring three runs on three hits The Eagles would cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the frame to make it, 4-2. Madison Humber drew a four-pitch walk and Emma Davis singled through the right side to put a pair of runners on before Faith Barth tallied an infield single to plate Humber.
Georgia Southern would tally just six hits in the contest and left six runners on base. Thames led the offense going 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
Alana Barnard suffered the loss in the circle tossing 4.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits and tallied two strikeouts. Maddie Johnson and Morgan Kendrick combined for the final 2.2 innings.
