Statesboro, Ga --- The Georgia Southern baseball team (7-5, 0-0 SBC) defeated Charleston Southern (8-3, 0-0 BIG South) 4-3 in ten innings thanks to a
JD Kaiser walkoff single.
It was a relatively quiet night for the bats on a windy evening, but the Eagles struck first in their first chance at the plate with a two-out solo shot from
Sean Smith. For Smith, he has now homered in half of the Eagles's contests with his six bombs. Starter
Jevarra Martin for the Eagles would throw four innings of no-run and no-hit ball, despite walking  and hitting three batters to make it more difficult for him.Â
The Eagles would add their other two runs in the fifth and seventh innings, thanks to two
Josh Tate base hits that would both score
Nico Senese. In the sixth, the Bucanners would finally strike the board as a single with two on would score a runner from second. However, in the bottom of the eighth, CSU would fully be back into the ball game after a one-out single was followed immediately by a two-run blast to right field by Aidan McAskie to tie the game. Despite multiple chances for both squad in the ninth, we would go to extras.
After
Will Robbins allowed a leadoff single for the Eagles, he would dial in and force a pop out the very next batter, follow by two punchouts to send his team into the dugout. In the bottom of the tenth, a leadoff double from
J.C. Peacher would send the crowd into a frenzy. After an intentional walk issued to
Sean Smith and a balk to put runners on second and third,
JD Kaiser was up. The Statesboro senior, who subbed into the game late at first base, soared a ball into shallow right-center field that found empty grass, scoring Peach and winning the ball game.
Just 12 games into the season, Georgia Southern already has three extra-innings victories under their belt. Next, they focus their shift to tomorrow as they travel south to Jacksonville to take on the Dolphins. First pitch in Florida is set for 6 p.m.
