Eagles travel to Atlanta for first time since 2023

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team is scheduled for midweek action traveling to Georgia Tech on Tuesday at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

Georgia Southern enters the contest 23-13 overall, 7-2 in conference play while Georgia Tech is 21-14 overall, 7-5 in ACC play.

ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Head Coach Sharon Perkins returns to Georgia Tech after spending seven seasons at the helm, posting a 290-138 overall record for a .678 winning percentage
  • Georgia Tech holds a 14-56 advantage over the Eagles
  • The Eagles last win over the Yellow Jackets was in a 6-5 win in 2009
LAST TIME OUT
Georgia Southern secured its third straight series win sweeping Georgia State this weekend. Maddie Johnson was stellar in the circle in game one tossing her fourth complete game shutout of the season. The freshman tossed seven complete innings allowing just three hits and fanned six Panther batters. She did not allow a free pass in the contest. The offense exploded in game two posting the second most hits on the season (13) to win 8-3. Game three was called in five innings due to darkness, as the Eagles pulled out a 3-2 win over the Panthers via a Valerie Combs sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the fifth.

A WIN WOULD...
  • be the Eagles 24th win of the season
  • be the fourth power four win of the season
  • be the 84th win the Perkins era
  • be the 1,019th win in program history
STRONG START IN SUN BELT PLAY
The 7-2 conference record marks Georgia Southern's best start to Sun Belt play since entering the league in 2015.

DAVIS DOES WHAT DAVIS DOES
Emma Davis led Georgia Southern going 4-for-7 (.571) including three doubles and three runs batted in as the Eagles swept Georgia State over the weekend. Davis recorded a career high three runs batted in during game two of the series by driving in what would be the game winning runs on a two-RBI double before tallying her third RBI on a double, her second of the game. Davis opened the series with her eighth multi-hit performance of the season going 2-for-2 with a double and run scored. Davis now leads the Eagles with nine multi-hit performances.

MARCH MADNESS
The Eagles posted a 14-6 overall record in March. Emma Davis hit a team leading .414 including seven doubles, ten runs batted in, and 12 runs scored. Kayla Christensen boasted a .316 batting average in March including six doubles, seven runs batted in, and 13 runs scored. Alana Barnard made her season debut and went 4-0 posting a 0.55 ERA in 25.2 innings with seven strikeouts.

SCORING EARLY AND OFTEN
The Eagles are 10-1 when scoring in the first inning and are 16-5 when scoring first.
