Eagles Overcome Early Deficit, Defeat Georgia State 4-2

Georgia Southern falls behind 2-0 to the Panthers, but rallies for the Sun Belt win

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis overcame an early deficit to knock off Georgia State, 4-2, in Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Wallis Tennis Center.

The Eagles moved to 10-6 overall and 2-3 in the league with the win, while Georgia State fell to 3-11 overall and 2-4 in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern returns to action on Sunday, hosting Troy in a Sun Belt matchup at 2 p.m.

Georgia State took the 1-0 advantage after doubles with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.

The Panthers stretched that lead to 2-0 with a straight-set singles win at No. 5 singles. Georgia Southern would battle back to tie the match at 2-all as Amelie Rosadoro notched a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, while Mackenzie Leopold earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.

Juliette Nask put the Eagles in front with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, then Franzi Heinemann clinched the victory with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

"We have had a few tight and tough matches recently that may not have gone our way," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "A point here and point there - that's how this sport can be. But the ladies showed great resiliency today after dropping the doubles point and had a statement win. There is zero quit in this group and today was a great day to be an Eagle!"
