AUSTIN/SAN MARCOS, TEXAS– Multiple Eagles had strong performances and a few made their way into the record books in Texas over the weekend as Georgia Southern track & field competed in the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational.
"I'm really proud of how the team competed this weekend, for us to come out here on a stage like the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational, it was a successful weekend," head coach
David Neville said. "This was a great step in the right direction, and it's still early in the season for us. This performance tells me we can accomplish much more moving forward."
The 4x100 team of
Shatalya Dorsett,
Imani Moore,
Emani George and
NaJ Watson won its heat with an effort of 45.34 and earned a berth in the finals.
The team followed by running the second-fastest time in school history and best since 2014 with a time of 44.63, finishing in seventh ahead of UCLA and Oklahoma.
Watson also notched a strong performance in the 200m in Austin, running to a 23.10 mark and finishing fifth overall, third among collegiate runners.
At Texas State, multiple Eagles set personal bests in their events, highlighted by
Jayla Lawrence's mark of 24.17 in the 200 - 10th-best in school history and second place in the event.
Amara Thomas followed with a 1.66m jump in the high jump, a new personal best and eighth in school history.
The Eagles will take the momentum from this weekend and move forward to the Florida Relays next week.
