HARRiSONBURG, Va. - No. 74-ranked Georgia Southern bounced back on Sunday with a 4-1 Sun Belt Conference win over James Madison on Sunday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.
The Eagles move to 12-6 overall and 3-1 in the league with the victory, while James Madison falls to 5-8 overall and 0-3 in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern returns to Wallis for its final two home matches of the Spring next weekend, beginning with a 10 a.m. matchup against Louisiana on Saturday, March 29.
James Madison was able to claim the doubles point from the Eagles, by taking wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Pol del Castillo and Alex Suk notched a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles for Georgia Southern.
In singles, the Eagles won five of six first sets, then got a quick 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles from Pierre Mouesca to tie up the match. Aaron James Williams collected a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles to put Georgia Southern in front, then Laurent Julia Calac won a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles. Milan Ristov clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
"I'm proud of how our guys met the challenges presented to us this weekend," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "You never know when adversity is going to strike, but I know how our guys are going to respond. We're excited for senior weekend and ready to give it all for our seniors."
