Eagles Late Burst Not Enough as Campbell Evens Up Series

Buies Creek, N.C. --- The Georgia Southern baseball team (5-5, 0-0 SBC) fell to Campbell (4-6, 0-0 CAA) by a score of 16-9 in game two of series this past Saturday afternoon (March 1st).

A three-run rally in the first inning with two outs for Campbell got their bats going early as a single and a triple in that order would give the Fighting Camels the early 3-0 lead and was just two of 14 hits on the day for them. A two-run second inning and a three-run homer from Campbell's Martin quickly rushed the score to 8-0 in the third.

After extending their lead to double digits the very next inning, the Eagles would avoid the shutout thanks to Nico Senese reaching aboard from an error by the Camels third baseman to score one. In the bottom of the fifth, Campbell would push their lead to the largest margin of the windy afternoon all the way to14-1 after plating four that half inning. Georgia Southern would still try to hang on as an RBI-single for Jack Myers, which was his first collegiate, woke up the bats late.

That same inning, Josh tate would send a hot ground ball down the right line for a double and scoring two Eagles in the process. In the bottom of the sixth, Landry Mead would hold the Camels to their first scoreless inning of the contest. Later, in a 16-4 game going into the top of the eighth inning, the Eagles would use two hits, an error, and eleven batters to score five runs and cut the deficit to seven.

The Camels last frame saw freshman pitcher Alex Mason hang up a zero on the board and strike out the side in his first collegiate appearance, but would not be enough to spark a ninth inning rally like last night's contest.

Luke Odden would go two-for-two on the night, but no RBIs, while both Cam Foster and Bryson Trammell got their first hits as a Georgia Southern Eagle.

The final game and the rubber match of the series takes place tomorrow afternoon at Jim Perry Field, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
