Softball Splits Day One of Bash in the Boro

Eagles take game one, fall in game two

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team split day one of the Bash in the Boro tournament at Beautiful Eagle Field on Friday. The Eagles took game one against Lipscomb 2-1, and fell to Harvard, 6-2.

Game One (Georgia Southern 2, Lipscomb 1)
Bailey Holland tossed her second complete game of the season holding the Bison to just one run on three hits and picked up five strikeouts.

Lipscomb opened the scoring in the opening frame on an RBI-groundout but the Eagles responded in the bottom half of the inning to even the score, 1-1. Valerie Combs recorded her first extra-base hit of the season scoring Faith Baith on an RBI-double.

After two scoreless innings the Eagles took the lead in the fourth after Kayla Christensen recorded an RBI groundout to score pinch runner Madison Humber

The Bisons looked to even things up in the seventh with a runner on third but a foul out to first base ended the threat and game.

Four different Eagles tallied hits in the contest.

Game Two (Georgia Southern 2, Harvard 6)
Harvard struck first in the top of the first inning, plating two runs. A two-RBI single up the middle gave the Crimson the lead. The scoring continued in the second as Harvard added to its lead on an RBI single before scoring two more in the fifth, making it 5-0.

Georgia Southern would cut into the lead in the fifth as Kyla Maxwell and Gracie Bellard opened the frame with back-to-back walks to put runners on. The Eagles were held hitless until Delanie Thames tallied her first extra-base hit of the season which scored Maxwell. Later in the inning, Emma Davis would score on a wild pitch.

The Eagle offense drew nine walks in the contest but managed to just record one hit while leaving nine runners left on base.

Maddie Johnson tossed 4.2 innings in the loss allowing five runs on 10 hits. Charla Clifton and Morgan Kendrick also sat time in the circle holding the Crimson to one run on one hit.
