STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's basketball continues its four-game road stretch on Monday and Tuesday evening, traveling to Jacksonville, Florida, to compete in the Jacksonville Classic presented by Just Play Solutions. Tip-off on Monday against Youngstown State is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., while Tuesday's game against UTSA is expected to tip at 9 p.m.
THE OPENING TIP
- Georgia Southern men's basketball took the court for the second consecutive contest against an ACC foe, this time against one of the hottest shooting teams in the country in Florida State. The Seminoles set a new program record by shooting 49 three-pointers, pouring in 98 points on the evening to defeat the Eagles, 98-72.
- The Eagles have made 63 total three-pointers on the season, posting the second most made in the Sun Belt Conference. Georgia Southern only trails Troy, which has made 65 on the season through six games. The Blue and White are averaging 10.5 made three-pointers per game, with a high of 15 made against Florida Gulf Coast on the road. Graduate guard Tyren Moore leads the Eagles with 17 made three-pointers and is tied for third in the Sun Belt Conference.
- Averaging 85.5 points per game, the Eagles have one of the most explosive offenses in the Sun Belt Conference, posting the third-highest points per game average. Georgia Southern dropped below 90 points per game for the first time this season, after being held to 66 and 72 points respectively against two ACC opponents. The Eagles trail Troy (90.3) and Marshall (87.0) as the only two teams averaging more points per game this season in the Sun Belt. On Friday against Johnson C. Smith, the Eagles scored 98 points, the most under head coach Charlie Henry.Â
- Graduate guard Tyren Moore has produced 1,170 career points in his four seasons in Division I. Entering Monday's game against Youngstown State, Moore sits with 932 points in a Georgia Southern uniform. Moore looks to become the 47th Eagle all-time to collect 1,000 points with Georgia Southern.
- Senior forward Shainen Carter produced a season-high 14 points on 3-of-3 shooting and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. The Detroit, Michigan, native added three rebounds, tallied two blocks, and one steal in Friday's loss, but was one of five Eagles to hit all their free throws against the Seminoles. The Eagles were 21-of-24 on the night (87.5 percent), the highest single-game percentage of the new year. Georgia Southern is one of three teams in the Sun Belt Conference with 100-plus free throws made, trailing Troy (111) and Texas State (111).Â
- The Eagles travel to Jacksonville, Florida, on Monday and Tuesday evening to compete in the Jacksonville Classic presented by Just Play. On Tuesday evening, Georgia Southern will face off against Youngstown State for the second time in program history and the first since 1985. That neutral site contest on December 20, 1985, went to the Eagles, who lead the all-time series 1-0 with a 61-59 victory at the Budweiser Bayou Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana. As for Tuesday's contest against UTSA, it marks the first time the two programs square off on the hardwood.Â
