STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis collected a 7-0 win over the No. 8-ranked team in NAIA, SCAD-Savannah, on Friday afternoon at the Wallis Tennis Center.
The Eagles moved to 3-1 on the season with the victory, while SCAD-Savannah drops its Spring opener to go to 0-1. Georgia Southern will play its next two matches on the road, beginning with a 1 p.m. contest at Kennesaw State on Sunday in Kennesaw, Ga.
Georgia Southern swept all three doubles matches from the Bees, then claimed all six singles matches in straight sets. Evelyn Warkentin notched her first dual match singles win of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Yue Yu at No. 1 singles to pace the Eagles.
"It was nice to get out and play today," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "Especially with some of the fickle weather we've been dealing with. Everyone did a good job in securing the result we were looking for. We have such a young team and each time we step on the court there is so much to learn from. Today was another great opportunity to improve and learn. Looking forward to a very good Kennesaw State team on Sunday."
