STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's golf team got its 2024-25 season off to a strong start Monday with a match play victory over Mercer at Forest Heights Country Club. The Eagles got off to a strong start by sweeping the five foursome matches and then picked up outright wins in six of 10 singles matches to clinch the victory.

In the morning session, the team of Ian Glanton and Hogan Ingram dominated for a 6&5 win to set the tone for the rest of the groupings. Brycen Jones and newcomer Edouard Cereto teamed up for a 3&2 win and freshman Thomas Horne and junior Parker Claxton combined to win 2&1. Luke Koenig and freshman Elijah Zamarron won a hole late to secure a 1 UP win and Brantley Baker and freshman Pierce Adamson rolled to a 4&3 win.

In singles, Cereto continued his strong day with a 6&5 win and Jones capped off his 2-0 day with a 2 UP win in the second spot. Claxton secured the team win with a 4&2 win and then Koenig finished off his 4&3 victory just minutes later. After Ingram halved his match, Baker put away his opponent with a 3&2 win. Adamson birdied the 18th hole to break a tie and pick up the win to end the day. Also halving their matches were Glanton and Horne.

For Georgia Southern, Cereto, Jones, Claxton, Adamson, Koenig and Baker all went 2-0 on the day.

The Eagles will play their first tournament of the season this weekend at the Gopher Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
