New Orleans, La. --- The Sun Belt Conference has announced Georgia Southern forward
Ryan Holmes as this week's Offensive Player of the Week recipient.
In the Eagles only game of the week, Holmes scored both of Georgia Southern's goals en route to a 2-1 victory over Stetson. In the 16th minute, a ball crossed in by
Ricky Louis found its way to Holmes who took a touch before burying it in the back of the net for his first goal as an Eagle. Then, after the Hatters tied it up in the second half, Louis did the dirty work by drawing a penalty in the box. Holmes then executed the penalty kick to perfection by nailing the top corner in the 72nd minute.
With
Julien Seher earning defensive honors last week, Holmes is the first to win an offensive weekly award and the first pair of Eagles to be honored in back-to-back weeks since October 2019.
The next match for the Eagles is this Sunday, September 15th, where the Eagles play host to UAB to keep their three-match win streak alive. Kickoff is set for 7 PM at Bo Pitts Field.
