MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The fifth-seeded Georgia Southern baseball team is set to take on the fourth-seeded James Madison Dukes to open up play in the 2024 Guardian Credit Union Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship. First pitch between the Eagles and Dukes is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
Georgia Southern and James Madison both earned first-round byes and missed the single elimination portion of the tournament, a portion that both teams played in last season. By virtue of missing the first round, both teams are automatically in the double elimination portion of the SBC Championship. The winner of this contest will advance to face the winner of the top-seeded Louisiana and lowest-remaining seed, while the loser will move on to face the loser of the aforementioned game.
The conference tournament has already begun with a matchup between seventh-seeded Coastal Carolina and tenth-seeded Georgia State already in action at the time of writing. The single elimination portion will end with a matchup between ninth-seeded South Alabama and eighth-seeded Old Dominion on Tuesday night.
The Eagles and the Dukes have already met this season, playing a three-game series against each other in Harrisonburg, Va. In that contest, the Dukes swept the Eagles and took a series from Southern for the first time ever.
This will be the first postseason meeting between the two programs ever.
The Eagles will turn to RHP
Ben Johnson to start tournament play, while JMU has announced LHP T.R. Williams will get the nod for the Dukes.
