BOONE, N.C. - The Georgia Southern baseball team prepares to conclude the regular season against rival Appalachian State with a three-game Sun Belt Conference series beginning on Thursday, May 16.
Georgia Southern carries a 28-24 overall record and a 15-12 SBC record into the contest. Most recently, the Eagles defeated the Jacksonville Dolphins in a midweek contest on Tuesday, sweeping the season series against the Dolphins. In the previous weekend's action, the Eagles were swept by the 22nd-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. App State comes into the weekend with a 30-17-1 record, 15-11-1 in conference, its tie coming from a travel-time ending contest against ULM. The Mountaineer's midweek contest against ETSU was canceled, but they previously took the series from Old Dominion in Norfolk, Virginia, two games to one.
Georgia Southern is 76-25 all-time against App State. Last season, the Mountaineers took game one of the series, but the Eagles then swept a doubleheader the following day to take down App State and win the series. Last time the two teams met in Boone, the Eagles took the first two games to take the series before dropping the final game.

Ben Johnson to the mound to open the series on Thursday afternoon, with its other two pitching spots to be determined later. App State has announced two of its starters with RHP Jackson Steensma starting game one on Thursday and RHP Dante Chirico starting Friday.
