MIDWEEK PREVIEW: Eagles Head to Midtown to Face Georgia Tech

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team prepares to head up I-16 and I-75 for a Tuesday night match-up against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Russ Chandler Stadium. Action from The Flats is set to begin at 6 p.m.

The Eagles and the Yellow Jackets have already met once this season, with Tech coming away from Statesboro with a 7-4 victory. In that game, the Eagles were ahead 4-1 after five innings, but the Yellow Jackets scored two in the seventh and four in the eighth to pull ahead and take the victory at J.I. Clements Stadium.

Tech leads the all-time series 108-32, with the majority of the match-ups happening in Atlanta. In games that are in Atlanta, the Eagles are 17-58 against the Yellow Jackets. The last win Southern earned in Atlanta was in March 2013, when T.D. Davis' two-run blast in the seventh inning pushed the Eagles further ahead of the Yellow Jackets, eventually claiming a 5-4 victory.

In the previous weekend's action, Southern swept Georgia State to pull ahead in the Sun Belt Conference standings, now currently tied in second place with Southern Miss. In Georgia Tech's weekend action, the Yellow Jackets took two of three from the Pitt Panthers, taking games one and three but dropping the middle game in Pittsburgh.

The Eagles will send out freshman righty Porter Buursema for his second start this season. In his last start, Buursema struck out the side in his first inning of action, ending his debut with four strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Georgia Tech will send out RHP Logan McGuire, the same started used in February's contest in Statesboro.
