MIDWEEK PREVIEW: Eagles and Bears Meet Twice in Two Days

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team begins a five-game week with two meetings against in-state rival Mercer. The first of two games this week takes place Tuesday night at J.I. Clements Stadium.

Georgia Southern comes into the weekend with a 19-20 overall record after dropping its previous three games to the James Madison Dukes. Mercer comes into the weekend holding a 20-17 overall record after only getting two games in this weekend against Wofford before weather shut down the final game. Mercer split the two games with the Terriers.

Georgia Southern is a dominant 121-49-1 all-time against the Bears, who are the Eagles most played opponent. Georgia Southern is currently riding a four-game win streak against the Bears, sweeping both meetings in the previous two seasons against Mercer.

The last time the Eagles and Bears met on consecutive days was during the 2017 season, where the Eagles defeated the Bears in Macon 15-7 before returning home to win a tighter 4-3 game to sweep the season series. Georgia Southern has won seven of the previous eight meetings with Mercer.

Georgia Southern has not yet announced who will be starting on either day, while the Bears have announced a duo of left-handed pitchers to start each contest, with Graham Yntema starting on Tuesday and Fred Wilson starting on Wednesday.
