
Softball Sweeps Day One of USF Tournament

Eagles return for day two tomorrow against Villanova and Louisville
TAMPA, Fla. – The Georgia Southern softball team (12-3) extended its winning streak to eight after picking up a pair of wins against Central Michigan 3-2 and USF 7-3 on Friday at USF Stadium.
The Eagles return to action for day two of the USF Tournament against Villanova and Louisville at USF Softball Stadium. The first pitch of game one is set for 1:30 p.m with game two following at 6:30 p.m.
Game One: Georgia Southern 3, Central Michigan 2
The Eagles got on the board first in the bottom of the first frame after Emma Davis scored on a passed ball. Davis led off the reaching second by an error by the Central Michigan defense then moved to third on a Gracie Bellard sacrifice bunt.
Central Michigan tied the score 1-1 in the third after runners reached second and third, X Coberley drove in the Chippewas first run of the game.
In the fourth frame, Katie Perkins drew a leadoff walk before Jess Mazur doubled to right field to score pinch runner Makayla Brantley then advanced to third on the throw. Faith Barth pushed Mazur across the plate on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
The Chippewas would cut into the lead in fifth when X Sleeman homered making it 3-2. Kyleigh Richardson would come into relief in the sixth tossing two hitless innings and picked up a big strikeout with the tying run on second to end the game and earn the save.
Bailey Holland (4-1) picked up the win in the circle tossing five innings giving up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
Davis, Bellard, and Mazur each recorded a hit in the contest and Davis extended her reach base streak to 14.
GAME TWO: Georgia Southern 7, USF 3
South Florida struck first in the bottom of the first after plating its run on an RBI-single. The Eagles would tie things up in the third frame when Davis delivered an RBI-single to score Kinley Stewart who led off the inning with a hit by pitch.
Mazur would give GS the lead in the fourth, launching a two-run shot to dead center field making it 3-1 after Perkins led off the inning with her first hit of the day. Davis extended the lead, 4-1, in the fifth with her second RBI of the day scoring Delanie Thames who doubled keeping the offense going.
South Florida cut into the lead, making it 4-3, in the sixth frame scoring two runs on two hits and two Eagle errors. Anslie Pettit picked up her third strikeout of the game to end the Bull's offensive threat.
The Eagles pushed across its final runs of the game in the seventh posting three runs using patience at the plate. A bases loaded walk, hit by pitch, and passed ball plated the three Eagle runs.
Pettit (4-2) tossed her fourth complete game of the season allowing three runs on 10 hits and striking out four.
Davis and Mazur led the Eagle offense going 2-for-3 and 1-for-3, respectively. The duo drove in four of the seven runs scored.
