STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team prepares to open the month of March with a three-game set against the No. 21 Campbell Camels, starting on Friday, March 1.
Georgia Southern brings a 3-5 record into the game after a 9-7 victory over the Jacksonville Dolphins on Wednesday, Feb. 28. In that game,
Sam Blancato's grand slam helped lead the Eagles to a 14th-straight victory over the Dophins. Along with Blancato's six RBI,
Josh Tate also had a big night with three hits and three runs scored of his own.
Daniel Haab also had multiple hits and multiple runs, helping Southern defeat Jacksonville. Campbell brings a 6-2 record into the game, most recently falling to No. 22 Coastal Carolina on Tuesday. In that game, the Chanticleers led 3-0 before the Camels responded with a solo homer. CCU put up three more runs to go up 6-1 before another HR by Campbell cut the lead to 6-2. In the end, the Chanticleers would win 9-2 in Conway, S.C.
In the all-time series, the Eagles are 13-0 against Campbell, dating by to 1976. This will be the first proper three-game series between the two squads, as all other meetings have either been two midweek games or the one-off midweek game. The last meeting between the two was in 2017, where the Eagles swept the two midweek games by final scores of 8-2 and 9-8.
For promotions this weekend, Friday will serve as "Survivor Night," where the first 500 fans in attendance will recieve GATA buffs based off the hit TV show "Survivor." Saturday is "Kids Take Over Clements," where young fans can sign up to do fun tasks around the stadium, like announcing the lineup, help the marketing team with games, and more. Finally, Sunday is "Sunday Funday," where inflatables will line the concourse and kids can run the bases afterwards.
Georgia Southern will return the same rotation from the first two weekends, with RHP
Thomas Higgins starting on Friday night, LHP
Mitchell Gross getting the ball on Saturday, and
Ty Fisher stepping to the mound on Sunday. Campbell will rely on RHP Derek Vartanian on Friday, RHP Zach Sabers on Saturday, and RHP Cooper Clark on Sunday.
