STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team hosts the first midweek contest of the season when Georgia Tech comes to town on Tuesday, February 19. First pitch from J.I. Clements Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
Georgia Southern carries a 1-2 record into the contest after tangling with the Big Ten's Maryland in the previous weekend series. While dropping the first two games, the Eagles earned its first win on Sunday on the back of
Ty Fisher's quality start, along with big offensive performances from
Sam Blancato and
Josh Tate. Georgia Tech brings a 3-0 record into the meeting after a season-opening sweep of Radford at Russ-Chandler Stadium. In those games, true freshman Drew Burgess and NC State transfer Payton Green combined for six home runs and 11 RBI, leading the Yellow Jackets to three wins over the Highlanders.
Last season, Georgia Tech swept the Eagles with wins in Statesboro and Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets own the series lead all-time, 107-32. The Eagles are 15-42 all-time against Tech in Statesboro.
Southpaw
Jacob Phillips will get the start for the Eagles on Tuesday night after seeing his first Division I action out of the bullpen on Friday night. Tech will lean on righty Logan McGuire in the contest.
This game is "Midweek Madness," which will feature Georgia Southern's "Innings of Winnings." Fans can look forward to a prize being given away between every inning, with various different ways to win these prizes. Head out to J.I. on Tuesday night to learn how to win some great prizes, including headphones, speakers, and even a Yeti cooler.
