Marshall Spoils Georgia Southern Senior Day With 8-1 Victory

Eagles close out the 2023 season; honor three seniors on Sunday
STATESBORO - Marshall used a five-run second inning to spoil the Senior Day of Georgia Southern softball, notching an 8-1 win over the Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field.
The Thundering Herd finished up the 2023 regular season with a 43-9 overall record and a 17-5 mark in the Sun Belt, setting a new program record for wins in a single season. Georgia Southern sees its season come to a close with a 17-34 overall record and a 6-18 mark in the Sun Belt.
A two-run triple from Bri Godfrey in the top of the second inning sparked the five-run frame for the Thundering Herd. Alex Coleman added an RBI single and Rielly Lucas closed out the scoring in the inning with a two-run single.
Each team added a run in the fourth inning as Marshall scored on a first-and-third play, scoring Sydney Bickel from third. Janai Conklin got the Eagles on the board in the bottom half with an RBI double to right center, scoring Courtney Ball.
A two-run single by Marshall's Grace Chelemen in the sixth capped the scoring in the contest for the Thundering Herd.
Sydney Nester improved to 25-7 with the victory as she gave up four hits and one run in seven innings of work, walking three while striking out 11. Kastin Belogorska (1-4) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up four hits and three runs in 1 1/3 innings of work, walking one.
