TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Eagles Begin Postseason Against Georgia State

Eagles and Panthers face off in single elimination game

STATESBORO - The ninth-seeded Georgia Southern baseball team begins its postseason pursuit of a Sun Belt Championship with a Tuesday night matchup with the eighth-seeded Georgia State Panthers in the 2023 Guardian Credit Union Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship presented by Troy University in Montgomery, Alabama. Action from Riverwalk Stadium is set for 7:30 PM ET.

The Eagles and Panthers face off in a single elimination game on Tuesday night, meaning it is win or go home for both squads. Georgia Southern and Georgia State have only met once in tournament action, with the Eagles coming out on top 10-1 over the Panthers in 2021.

After Tuesday, the tournament moves to a double elimination format all the way until Championship Sunday. If Georgia Southern takes down Georgia State and Old Dominion is victorious over James Madison, the Eagles would face off against second-seeded Southern Miss on Wednesday night at 8:30 PM ET. Should the Eagles win and JMU takes down ODU, Georgia Southern will face regular season champion and top-seeded Coastal Carolina at 5 PM ET on Wednesday.

The Eagles and the Panthers meet for the fourth time this season after the Panthers swept GS in Decatur, Ga. The only time a team has won four games in one season in the series was when Georgia Southern took four games over Georgia State in the 2002 season.

Neither team has announced a starting pitcher for the contest.
