STATESBORO - The Georgia Souther baseball team continues its five-game road trip with a Sun Belt Conference series at 17th-ranked Coastal Carolina. The series is set to start Thursday night from Springs Brooks Stadium at 6 p.m.
The Eagles and the Chanticleers have met ever year since CCU joined the Sun Belt Conference in the 2016-17 season. The series has been evenly matched since 2017, with both teams winning eight games a piece against each other. In the overall series, Georgia Southern holds a 22-19 lead over the Chanticleers.
Georgia Southern comes into the series with a 14-15 overall record. Last time out, the Eagles fell to Georgia Tech in Atlanta by a final score of 13-7, after the Yellow Jackets scored nine combined runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. Coastal Carolina comes in with a 18-8 record and a No. 17 national ranking. In CCU's last time out, the Chanticleers were run-ruled by Clemson in a midweek matchup, falling 16-6 to the Tigers.
Georgia Southern will reconfigure the starting rotation a little bit, with RHP
Ben Johnson (4-2, 6.68 ERA) taking the series-opening spot on Thursday night, LHP
Ty Fisher (2-3, 4.39 ERA) taking the mound on Friday night, and RHP
Ga'von Wray (1-0, 6.43 ERA) earning the nod on Saturday afternoon. Coastal Carolina will send RHP Jacob Morrison on Thursday, RHP Matthew Potak on Friday, and RHP Jack Billings on Saturday.
