Troy Completes Sun Belt Sweep Of Eagles With 8-0 Victory

Georgia Southern wraps up the 2023 regular season by hosting Marshall, beginning Thursday at Eagle Field
TROY - Troy claimed the final game of this weekend's Sun Belt softball series against visiting Georgia Southern with an 8-0 win in six innings on Sunday in Troy.
The Trojans improve to 33-15-1 overall and 14-6-1 in the Sun Belt with the victory. Georgia Southern falls to 17-31 overall and 6-15 in the league with the loss. The Eagles return home to Statesboro and will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series against Marshall, beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Leanna Johnson (24-6) hurled a one-hit shutout, walking two and striking out five to earn the win for the Trojans. Freshman Alana Barnard took the loss for the Eagles, falling to 1-9 on the season by giving up eight hits and seven runs in 3 1/3 innings of work, walking three.
The Trojans scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and collected nine hits on the day. Taylor McKinney went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run for the home team.
Faith Barth's one-out double in the top of the sixth inning was the lone hit of the day for the Eagles.
