STATESBORO – There's a lot going on surrounding this weekend's Sun Belt Conference series against ULM, and Georgia Southern Athletics is here to explain everything that you need to know going into the weekend.
This weekend holds several different distinctions, including Alumni Weekend, Retro Weekend, and it's the team's annual Vs. Cancer series. More information about all three are provided below for fans to familiarize themselves with before coming out to the series.
ALUMNI WEEKEND
We are excited to welcome back all alumni from Georgia Southern baseball. Alumni of the team can request tickets for the Friday and Saturday games to be held, as well as take part in the alumni golf tournament. We will be honoring all alumni all weekend, and on Saturday afternoon, we will honor the 1973 College World Series team during the game, representing the first team from Georgia Southern to make it to Omaha, as well as the first team from the State of Georgia to make it.
More information about tickets and the tournament can be found
here or by clicking the blue button at the top of the release.
VS. CANCER
Last season, Georgia Southern baseball raised over $13,000 for Vs. Cancer. All student-athletes and coaches shave their heads at the conclusion of the final game of the series, with haircuts courtesy of Vintage Barbers.
Vs. Cancer is a nonprofit fundraising campaign under the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation dedicated to saving kids' lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts. The organization works with over 250 collegiate baseball teams, as well as countless high schools and youth teams to help fight pediatric brain tumors.
Our players can share their donation link to raise funds personally, as well as have family and friends support this campaign through sponsorships and by attending percentage nights throughout the week prior to the Vs. Cancer game. Anyone who would like to donate for the Georgia Southern Vs. Cancer fund can visit
this link or click the blue box at the top of the release.
RETRO WEEKEND
This weekend's promotion will span the entire weekend, as the Georgia Southern Athletic Marketing team is excited to bring Retro Weekend to J.I. Clements Stadium. Each day will celebrate a different decade, with Friday being 70's Night, Saturday being 80's Night, and Sunday being 90's Night.
On Friday night, the marketing team will be handing out retro themed Georgia Southern pennants, modeled after the pennant former Eagles skipper Jack Stallings held during his introductory press conference in May of 1975, pictured above. On Saturday afternoon, the marketing team will distribute baby blue baseball bats with a navy and white script Eagles at the top of the bat, modeling the colors that the Eagles wore in the 1980's of baby blue, navy blue, and white. On Sunday afternoon, the marketing team will distribute fanny packs, everyone's favorite 90's accessory.
Additionally, Southern Exchange Company will be selling vintage Georgia Southern merchandise. Keep tuned to Southern Exchange's social media feeds for when the merchandise starts to arrive through the week.
